Backup Exec 16 is back with Veritas branding. The Backup Exec Administration Console and installation screens now vividly display the Veritas branding and the new Backup Exec logo. Veritas has a renewed commitment to Backup Exec product improvements, support enhancements, and the end-user experience.

Notification of a Software Version Upgrade automatically occurs via email. Each active member of the customer’s Licensing Portal account will receive this upgrade notification. Backup Exec 16 has discontinued support for Windows Server 2003 32-bit and Windows Server 2003 64-bit. However, Backup Exec continues to protect 32-bit Windows physical and virtual machines which have the Backup Exec Windows Remote Agent installed.The Agent for Lotus Domino has reached End-of-Life in Backup Exec 16. Backup Exec 16 does not support a push installation of the Agent for Mac.
9. How will I receive this version if I’m current on maintenance?
Current Veritas customers with maintenance or support for any Veritas product are entitled to a free software version upgrade for any new release of that product or its successor. See question 6 for instructions on how to access your entitlement.

Existing customers with active maintenance can upgrade the appropriate Backup Exec 16 licenses free of charge. Customers who do not have an active maintenance contract or new customers switching to Backup Exec 16 can save up to 35% off MSRP when they upgrade. 11. What is the earliest version of Backup Exec that allows for a direct upgrade to Backup Exec 16?
If you are using Backup Exec from 2012 or newer you can simply download the latest version over your existing versions of Backup Exec. Note: Backup Exec will automatically migrate existing Backup Exec related data from versions 2012 and higher to version 16. For clients who are using earlier versions, you may have to purchase a new license.
12. What about backward compatibility with Backup Exec 16?
Yes. Backup Exec 16 is backward compatible with Backup Exec 2010 R3-SP4 and newer versions. Older versions of Backup Exec (those prior to Backup Exec 2010 R3) must be uninstalled before installing Backup Exec 16. Alternatively, for customers who are using Backup Exec 12.5, 12, 11d, 10d, 10 or older versions (including agents/options), you can upgrade in steps to Backup Exec 2014, update all remote agents, and then upgrade to version 16.
13. Do I have to upgrade all agents/options at the same time when I upgrade the core media server to Backup Exec 16?
Yes. You will need new license files for Backup Exec 16 Agents and Options.
